How I Approach Counselling
I am passionate about cultivating a safe therapeutic environment so that issues can be explored and clients can feel supported. I utilise a number of counselling modalities including; person centred counselling, acceptance commitment therapy and emotion focussed therapy.
Regardless of the issues presented, I am willing to provide clients with the time and space to share their story in safety, promoting meaning making and self-awareness that can lead to lasting change.
Professional Background
Twenty years ago I began a career as a Chartered Accountant, establishing a practice in 2003 and built a portfolio of clients who soon became my family. They shared their struggles and joys and I soon began to realise that I loved listening to their stories and had an innate desire to support and care for them in their struggles.
The work became less about the numbers and more about the people. Since then, I have raised my own children, who are now thriving teens.
I have enjoyed serving my local church in pastoral care and music roles and trained as a school chaplain which enabled me to transition from accounting to teaching in secondary schools.
During my time as a Chaplain and Teacher I have become aware of the growing mental health concerns amongst children and adolescents, and I am passionate about developing my strengths in this area. During my time as a pastoral carer in schools and the local church I have developed experience in supporting vulnerable children and adults through active listening, psychoeducation and the provision of holistic care.
In addition to this I have had the joy of mentoring Christian women in pastoral ministry and look forward to providing supervision in this area as I build on my counselling experience in the future.
